"Passing Angel"

dawing This is one of four graphite drawings that are quite different from the style of many of my other drawings. While still relatively objective, this one also incorporates much more of the intuitive and abstract than my other drawings.

The trees and vegetation are drawn just from my mind, from the residual memories of all the trees and plants I"ve drawn from life and photographs for years. So I think of them as plant-ness and tree-ness shapes.

The thought from which this image was born was that angels are like a swift passing of light through our world. A long trailing light of consciousness, moving past us.

They do not move in any relationship to the world we know, but along their own trajectory , corresponding to another reality. And yet we can feel the effects of their passage, like a breeze on the soul or a brightness in the heart.
